Pioneer Day

Annual celebration of mountain heritage. The one-day festival features mountain music in the amphitheater, craft demonstrations such as weaving, black smithing, and pottery turning, “Hit or Miss” engine displays and vendors displaying and selling their wares. So Great the Devastation: The 1916 Flood

The great flood of 1916 was one of the worst ever experienced in the Tar Heel state. To commemorate the event, the North Carolina Office of Archives and History has developed a traveling exhibit that tells us the history of this tragic event.

NC Gold Festival

Annual event, featuring gold exhibits, gold mining techniques and demonstrations, treasure and scavenger hunts, geo-caching, gold panning, numerous vendors including arts and crafts, raffles, Friday night kicks off the festival.
