The Toe River Arts Council Spruce Pine Gallery, Mitchell County, is 30 minutes from the Burnsville facility on the Upper Street of the small town. Intrepid travelers and seekers of art can find it and find out about it all in the gallery—viewing rotating showcases, enjoying the gift shop representing over 100 local artists, checking out events and happenings, breathing the fresh air and returning smiles. TRAC promotes the arts through educational and community-wide programs and services. In addition to the gift shop and rotating exhibitions, TRAC hosts the premier studio tour twice a year, coordinates a community orchestra, works with kids and art in the schools after and in school experiences. All this is set in one of the most beautiful areas in the country. Meandering streams and rivers, impressive mountains, and inviting valleys make the Toe River Valley and Mitchell County a region of exquisite beauty. In the summer, hike to the top of Roan Mountain and feel the blue sky. In winter, smell the hot coffee steaming in a handmade mug beside the wood stove. Add the number of trails (hiking, biking, heritage, quilt and on and on) and the over 400 artists who call this area home, and the Valley becomes a destination for visitors year round.
