The Toe River Arts Council Gallery, housed in a 100-year old building, is a stone’s throw from the Town Square in Burnsville. The gallery is the local showcase for the artists who live in the Toe River Valley and who make this area so unique and unparalleled in artistic talent. TRAC promotes the arts through educational and community-wide programs and services—hosting the premier studio tour twice a year, mounting rotating exhibits in its gallery, representing over 100 local artists in its gift shop, a community free orchestra, and after- and in- school experiences—all set in one of the most memorable areas in the country. Meandering streams and rivers, impressive mountains, and inviting valleys make the Toe River Valley and Yancey County a region of exquisite beauty. In the summer, the rhododendron infuse the green hills with brilliant pinks and magenta. In winter, the air is so crisp it snaps, and snows quiet the landscape. Add into this diverse mix the number of trails (hiking, biking, heritage, quilt and on and on) and the over 400 artists who call this area home, and the Valley becomes a destination for visitors year round. Come for a visit, stay for the day.
