Cinema/Theaters Archives - NC Blue Ridge

The Bohemian spirit is alive and well in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The area boasts numerous theaters ranging from small black box stages to the official playhouse in the State of North Carolina. Visitors can enjoy nationally acclaimed stage productions, independent cinema, improve comedy, dance troupes – the list goes on.

The mountains have been a home base for the arts for years, and has at times served as the backdrop in multiple major pictures. Last of the Mohicans includes scenes from Chimney Rock State Park, Dirty Dancing’s iconic scenes were filmed at Lake Lure, Richie Rich and Hannibal both used Biltmore as their backdrop, and The Hunger Games was filmed across the mountains from Dupont State Park in Hendersonville to “District 12” near Glen Alpine. You can visit most of these iconic areas during your time in the mountains.
