Scenic Drives and Waterfall Hunting Near Columbus NC
Get outdoors and enjoy the beauty of the surrounding mountains. Take a scenic drive along White Oak Mountain Road and you’ll come across Shunkawauken Falls, a towering waterfall visible from the road. Continue further past the falls and you’ll find sweeping views from atop Sunset Rock of the valley below.
Museums for the History Buff
There are some museums of note in Columbus, including the House of Flags, the only museum of its kind in America. Over 300 flags are on display (American and International), and multiple exhibits help educate visitors on the history and evolution of the American flag. Another downtown spot worth checking out is the Polk County History Museum. Exhibits range from the history of the wayward cannonball to the case of Sherlock’s pipe. Admission to the museum is free, but those interested in learning more can visit their store, which offers historical books and DVDs for sale.
