Asheville Fire Department Fire Prevention Kickoff Event
September 29, 2018 @ 9:00 am - 2:00 pm
AFD will hold it’s annual Fire Prevention Kick off event on September 29th from 9am – 2pm at Asheville Outlets. This a is family-friendly event sure to be exciting for all! The event is designed to bring awareness of fire prevention to the people of Asheville in an engaging and educational manner. The event will allow people to meet local firefighters and to see different fire trucks. There will be hands-on fun events for kids and a great learning experience in AFD’s inflatable fire safety house. Many local vendors will be present and even an opportunity for city of asheville residents to apply for free smoke alarm installations in their home. This year’s FPW campaign, “Look. Listen. Learn. Be aware. Fire can happen anywhere,” works to educate people about three basic but essential steps to take to reduce the likelihood of having a fire––and how to escape safely in the event of one:
Look for places fire could start. Take a good look around your home. Identify potential fire hazards and take care of them.
Listen for the sound of the smoke alarm. You could have only minutes to escape safely once the smoke alarm sounds. Go to your outside meeting place, which should be a safe distance from the home and where everyone should know to meet.
Learn two ways out of every room and make sure all doors and windows leading outside open easily and are free of clutter.
