On Saturday, November 10, Veterans Day Weekend, hundreds of classic cars will be on display at Asheville Outlets, 800 Brevard Road, Asheville, N.C. in the parking lot next to Field and Stream as part of Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry’s (ABCCM’s) Patriots & Legends Car Show. Combined it’s the third largest in the US. The other program, Veterans Services of the Carolinas, is ABCCM’s only regional veterans program covering twenty-six counties of Western North Carolina from Cherokee to Mecklenburg. It’s a live call center for veterans, active military and military families, rapid rehousing and employment services reaches twenty-six counties from Mecklenburg to Cherokee.
The ninth year of ABCCM’s Mountain Classic Car Show demanded a new name due to the events expansion. Rebranded as the Patriots & Legends Car Show, ABCCM needed to team up with sponsors deeply committed to creating one of the largest events to honoring veteran’s in this region. Ingles Markets responded by bringing in national food distributors M&M/Wrigley and Bush Beans. Both brands sponsor NASCAR teams, and will display their show cars at the event. Ingles also expanded this veteran event by securing a post-show, love-offering concert by Asheville native and Top 40 country music star, Joe Lasher. Paramount Kia of Asheville contributed not only funds for ABCCM’s veteran services, but will showcase several fully restored luxury automobiles from their classic car division. Blossman Gas, a long-time ABCCM car show sponsor, and largest family owned propane distributor in the US, increased their contribution to ABCCM’s veteran services spurred by the Blossman Gas CEO, Stuart Weidie. In addition, Blossman’s Branch Manager, David Lipe will raffle a seven hundred dollar propane gas grill at the event for veteran services.
In addition to the cars and concert, the Marine Corp League will provide a color guard and live National Anthem. The Harley Owners Group will then perform a drive-through parade of motorcycles covered in flags and patriotic decorations. The North Carolina National Guard will bring their thirty-foot climbing wall, local food trucks will be onsite including Doc Brown’s BBQ, Deli Volv, Prime Time Eats and Bun Intended. American Legion Post 526 will host a 50-50 drawing, and there will be a silent auction. The car show portion of the event lasts from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Custom car show trophies will be awarded for top ten, best in show, sponsors choice and veterans’ choice. The Joe Lasher concert will last from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The concert is free with a requested contribution to ABCCM during the concert, and all proceeds throughout the event go to ABCCM’s services to veterans.
