Join the Celebration of Liver Mush and the Liver Mush heritage of Marion and McDowell County! Back again this year – Pig Calling Contest. Get your best pig call ready! $50, a trophy and a Festival t-shirt for the best pig caller! And the Liver Mush Eating Contest!!! The Contest is open to adults 18 years & up. A $50 cash prize, a trophy and a Liver Mush Festival T-shirt to the winner. Inflatables and other activities for the kids!! Visit with the vendors and sponsors. Free Liver Mush sandwiches from Hunter’s Liver Mush, the event sponsor. This year’s Liver Mush Festival will also feature a Beer and Wine Garden for the first time, located in front of and inside Refinery 13, North Main Street in the Festival area. Adults 21 years of age and older will be allowed in the Beer and Wine Garden area between 5:00 PM and 9:00 PM by paying $1 to receive a wristband. All proceeds from the wristband sales will go to the local Women’s Shelter. For the motorcycles enthusiast, it will be the 1st Annual Hog on Hog Poker Run, Saturday, June 3, 2017, $20.00 per motorcycle. Each registration includes complimentary BBQ sandwich at the end of the run. Registration begins at 1:00 PM at the Marion Tailgate Market; first bike out – 1:30 PM; last bike out – 2:30 PM. Run ends with bike display on Main Street @ 4:30 PM as part of the Liver Mush Festival. And what would a Livermush Festival be without the sounds of the sounds of great country music and rock classics by Roadrunnerz.

Woodsy Owl’s Curiosity Club Summer Nature Series: Thursdays from June 15 to August 10,   10:30 a.m. – noon & 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Woodsy Owl is the USDA Forest Service’s conservation symbol whose motto is “Lend a hand, care for the land!”
* Each day an outdoor-oriented activity explores a different forest related theme.
* Designed to engage 4-7 year olds in the natural world around them
* Each child leaves with the colorful book, Woodsy’s ABCs, a Woodsy pin and a craft  they
create; repeat children receive other Woodsy gifts.
* Fee: $4.00/child/program. Accompanying adults admitted for half the entrance fee
* Free for accompanying adults with season passes to the Cradle of Forestry, America the  Beautiful Senior passes and Golden Age Passports.

The 5th annual Hunter Subaru LPC Throwback Triathlon is the perfect event in which to challenge one’s self, regardless of competition experience or athletic prowess. It features a 200-yard outdoor pool swim, a 17.5 mile bike on quiet country roads, and a rolling 5k run with an on-track finale in which to summon your mighty kick to the tape! The Kid’s Splash N’ Dash, which begins at 10:30, means even budding athletes can participate in the throwback thrills without adults towering overhead!

Named by USA Today as one of the Top Twenty Festivals in North Carolina, Folkmoot is a ten-day event, held across the mountains of Western North Carolina in Waynesville, Clyde, Lake Junaluska, Maggie Valley, Canton, Cherokee, Franklin, Hickory, Asheville, and Hendersonville, plus a first performance in Greenville, South Carolina. The 2017 festival dates are July 20 – 30 and feature cultural ambassadors/dance performing groups from India, Netherlands, Slovenia, Argentina, Russia, Israel, Taiwan, Wales and local Appalachian and Cherokee dancers and musicians.

Folkmoot is defined as a “meeting of the people” and delivers exuberant, educational and entertaining programs for all ages based on cultural exchange through dance and music. The festival is designed to build global relationships, foster cultural understanding and develop community prosperity.

33rd annual gem and mineral show put on by the Parkway Fire and Rescue to raise funds for new equipment.
60 worldwide vendors with gems, minerals, fossils, jewelry, lapidary equipment and much more.
Dates are July 30th to August 6th, 2017.
Hours are from 10 to 6 with some vendors open earlier or later.
Admission and parking are free.
Address is 136 Majestic View, Spruce Pine NC 28777. This is at the new fire station on top of the hill above the old fire station and show field.

Directions from Asheville is to go North on I-26 to Exit 9 and take US 19 north 30 miles to Hwy 226 South to the right. Follow Hwy 226 to Skyview Circle and turn right and follow Majestic View to the top of the hill to the new fire station.
From Marion take Hwy 226 north towards Spruce Pine. When you pass under the Blue Ridge Parkway is will be on your left above Skyview Circle at the new fire station on Majestic View.

The only race of its kind in the region, participants will strap on headlamps and light up the night as they duke it out in the dusk. The twists and turns of DuPont’s famous trail system will dare them to push forward, not knowing what bogies and specters might lurk around each corner! The One Mile Spooky Sprint will be Halloween themed, and a great chance for kids and kids-at-heart to break in their costumes a day early, without stressing about time limits, as this event is untimed!
