Folk Art Center - Southern Highland Craft Guild

The Folk Art Center, located directly on the Blue Ridge Parkway, is one of Asheville's most popular attractions for both vacationers and locals. Juried craftspeople from the Blue Ridge Mountains of nine southern states are represented at the Folk Art Center. Exhibitions, special events and daily craft demonstrations are featured. The century-old Allenstand Craft Shop showcases both traditional and contemporary Appalachian arts & crafts by over 350 craftspeople. FREE ADMISSION and open daily, all year.

Historic Johnson Farm

Historic Johnson Farm is a non-profit heritage education center and farm museum.  It features an 1880's home, a barn loft museum, ten historic buildings, animals, nature trails, and 15 acres of fields, forest and streams. Take a personalized tour of the buildings of the farm, learn what it took to run a tobacco farm, roam through the houses and grounds and see what it was like to spend the summer on the farm. Visitors can also visit the restored 1923 boarding house, and see the Heritage Weavers & Fiber Artists at work.  The tour also includes a visit with our barn animals.

Home of the Perfect Christmas Tree

Visit the Home of the Perfect Christmas Tree store in Spruce Pine to shop for pottery, weavings, and other beautiful and unique gifts lovingly handcrafted by local artisans. The Year of the Perfect Christmas Tree, a popular book by Gloria Houston, set in Spruce Pine, inspired the Home of the Perfect Christmas Tree project.
